Big Event ‘08!

March 29, 2008: The BIG Event! Thousands of people gather just outside the basketball arena, waiting to get their hands on the tools and work for the people around town who have requested for assistance in doing some work in their house.

Okay, done with the formality. Basically, Big Event is like a mass gotong-royong project, except instead of cleaning up public areas, we go to specific people’s houses and do work for them. What do we get? Well, some sense of doing good, extremely tired bodies, lots of fun, dirty clothes, new friends, and some free sausages and drinks for breakfast. You can sign up as an individual, then they assign you to a group, or you can sign up as a group. I joined the Navigators group. We were divided into 3 teams. (Btw, for those who were busy asking me to post pics of chun girls, probably this is the closest I’ve come so far.)

Yeah these are the Navigators people. Arguably the group I spend the most time with. Great bunch of people (and some of them can be quite lame.) Anyway, our team were sent to help a family do some painting. So, after getting our tools, we went straight to the place. Few pics were taken on the way there. Kids, do not try this on any truck. We probably could’ve found better ways to get there.

This was the house we were supposed to paint. (This is how it looks now. Forgot to take a before pic).

Had lotsa fun painting. Took lotsa lame pics as usual. Must bring some of the CA® quality to the US!

 Before after pics:

Don’t think just coz we work for free, we do low quality work okay! Check out how smooth our paint texture is (of course, I took the part with the best texture.)

Debriefing from the nice lady we worked for. Apparently, she’s a Christian too, so before we left, we took a group picture, then she prayed for all of us, the best form of payment anyone can ask for. She was very pleased and excited with the result, so we thank God for that.

Notice the white dots on all of our noses? Yeah, I started that, and somehow it caught on. Anyway, after the pictures and prayer, we left. And of course, the universal culture, after work —–> MAKAN !! For those of you who watched Idiocracy, this place will be a familiar place to you. Of course, in the show, this place had a not so decent name after the average IQ of the people dropped.

So, that wraps up a wonderful Saturday morning for me. Made some new friends, had more time to talk nonsense and do nonsense with the friends I already know, and got to try new food. YAY !

Just added, a movie/picture presentation of the gotong-royong.

Kepong Spagetthi re-reviewed.

27 03 2008

Where? Bandar Menjalara in Kepong. Near some big-ass Tim Sum restaurant.

Why? Awesome spanking MSG-laden spagetthi that simply tastes out of this world. Perhaps the fantastic taste is due to overdosing of MSG.

I know that I’ve talked alot about this Super Keng spagetthi since like ages ago, but I’ve never
actually gotten around to bring my camera everytime I’m there.
But after months of waiting, the review is finally here!

According to Simon, the reason for it being so damn nice is because of MSG. Seriously, if he hadn’t said that, I would definitely rank this above Italiannies or whatever places it is that serves spagetthi. Sorry lah, I’m too used to lousy food. Hence the blog’s name.

I’m comparing price-for-quality lah that is.

There are many combinations of spagetthi with different side orders, but I find the above most satisfying. Why? Because got the most type of variety of food.
For only RM5, I get super alot of spagetthi, egg, ham and sausage. What a steal!

Call me weird. But I simply love the taste and the tenderness of the spagetthi. I don’t know
if they’re using some cheapo spagetthi or something, but it’s enough to convert me altogether.

The only problem I have is WHY IS THIS PLACE SO DAMN FAR?? On top of that, must pay toll somemore…grrr!

Other than that, it’s the one of the kind spagetthi for me! Who da fak cares if got MSG or not!
Not like I come here everyday, right?

Verdict:
Kepong Spagetthi is…
- out of this world.
- superbly delicious.
- MSG-laden.

Kepong Spagetthi is not…
- a waste of money.
- for the weak of heart.
- for Simon.

Specially for Hoc Mun…..

… who says I don’t post enough pics of US, or Texas in particular. Anyway, since daniel put a signature photo of himself to indicate he wrote that post, I think I should too.

Eggguy Pic

Okay, now that we’ve got that aside, let’s start with the real stuff. It’s been quite a while since I posted pics here. Quite a bit happened since the last time I posted about Texas. US Elections, special campus events, International week, student body president elections, free t shirts, etc etc.. Let’s start with International Week. Basically it’s a week where countries promote the cultures of their own motherland to the people in the uni, and the highlight of the event is………. International Buffet !! Food from across the world, prepared by the students themselves, and eaten by people like me!! We from Malaysia made satay, bubur cha cha, and pasembur. Towards the end, we traded our food for food from other countries, so managed to eat Hong Kong chicken, Indonesian dunno what, some African stuff, etc etc….. Pictures follow.

Preparation!

Posing with other Malaysians in my pseudo-batik shirt

Leftovers!!

Didn’t expect me to pass up the chance to take home leftover eggs did you ? Wahahahaha… Finished it in about 4 days. Okay, next notable event, US elections! The Texas primaries and caucuses were held on the 4th of March, and one of the TV stations brought a crew down to Texas A&M for a news cast or something. Pics from the day.

Didn’t manage to get pics of the Clinton faction though. Anyway, if you know American politics, Clinton won in Texas but not by much. NEXT!! Time to show off uni a bit then we’ll get on with the next event. Check out the com lab. Just the one of many.

The next picture needs a little more explanation. It’s called the century tree, and the irony is, it’s been the century tree for the last who knows how many years. It may even be a double-century tree! Anyway, there’s a saying here that says that if you walk under the tree with the one you love, you’ll be married to that person for life, and if you walk under there alone, you’ll be alone for life. I’ll leave it to you to imagine what people will say if 2 guys walked under that tree.

Next notable event was Spring break, which I didn’t do anything, so no GGW pics or anything similar. After spring break, people started campaigning for Student Body President, the John Lennon tour bus visited my uni, and people were giving away free shirts (and of course I got one, if not, tak layak be CA® member). Pics.

(I have no idea why there are turles and dogs there as well. There was a red iguana as well, but I didn’t take a pic of it)

Just for some additional info, Black Eyed Peas, Yoko Ono, Natasha Bedingfield, and I guess a few more artists recorded on the bus before. Definitely the highlight of the month so far. If i didn’t have class, I would have probably stayed in there for a few more hours or so. Anyway, next topic! Trip to Waco! Probably gained a few kilograms on the trip. Followed my roommate, Neal back to his home. His parents kept giving me so much good food, hard for me to say no. Furthermore, they brought me to their extended family easter lunch after Sunday service. Ate even more food there! Basically, the whole weekend meals consisted of turkey sandwiches, beef briscuits, buns, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes with cheese, chicken fried steak, ham, bacon salad, eggs, birthday cake, ice cream, and other deserts!! Unfortunately, no pics, coz a bit pai seh to take pics while they all eating. Maybe next time. Also, went to take some pics of the stereotypical Texas you guys have come to know.

(That gray shirt above is the free shirt I got the day before)

(The Johnsons)

At Neal’s uncle’s house, had a lot of cool stuff. Got soda machine, cool car, and a trolley!! The kind of thing you’ll see in San Francisco.

Anyway, I guess that wraps up my post this time.

p/s: Do I look more fashionable now??? Hmmmmm…
