Makan Babi! Karl’s Beisl reviewed.

8 07 2007

No seriously, makan babi.

Awhile back, I visited this place called Karl’s Beisl in Bangsar. Now don’t ask me what it means because I haven’t the slightest idea. I won’t bother tell you exactly where it is because I’m pretty dead sure that you won’t know where it is.
I’m also willing to bet all my armpit hair that you won’t be visiting the place in the near future.

Where? In one of the apartments located in Bangsar. It is so deep in that I would say only the residents of the apartment would know about it. Ya, it’s the area opposite BSC.
Why? Authentic German cuisine. Super expensive, super nice and superbly super.

Not that I’m a big fan of German food or what. In fact, the only things that I probably know
about the Germans are that:
1) They have great booze.
2) German chicks are hot.
3) Michael Ballack is from Germany.

Something nice about this place is that it is peaceful and quiet. In fact, my group and another
group were the only ones there who were having dinner that night. Maybe it’s because not many people know about it’s existance.

Our main reason to go there was to eat roti prata…with pork. Serious wan.
Then while waiting, we ordered a few appetizers such as…

Escargo! This little dish here cost around RM15. Pretty pricey won’t you say? Somemore
the snails are super small. It’s barely 1/6 of the bread. Delicacy only mah…
if you want I can go and catch for you snails from my garden and charge you astronomical
prices as well.

Then we also order nachos. I don’t know why got egg and salad underneath the nachos.
Maybe it’s the German way of eating it. If got rojak sauce, it would taste much better!
Nachos also cost about RM15.

Ya, its eat all you can for RM15 restaurant lol.

Nothing beat this mash potatoes! Seriously, Germans do make one helluva mash potatoes
dish! While this dish was meant to be shared out among many, I sendiri one man show and
nicely finish kow kow the plate by my self. It cost about RM20 I think. Sure as hell doesn’t come cheap.

Then finally the main dish came.

BABI HUTAN! Or babi bandar? This piglet was specially roasted and prepared personally by the chef, who happened to be a friend of someone I know.

Yeap, that’s the German chef. His name is Karl.
This place is called Karl’s Beisl. So um, I’m assuming it doesn’t mean Karl’s home?

Mr. Karl wanted to show his kungfu chopping skills to us. So he brought the
babi to our table and chopped it up into pieces for us to see. Like magic show only.

He pancung the head and belah the body into half like a watermelon. Kesian babi tu.

So we ate the pig and took the head back as a trophy. WE CONQUERED BABI-BABILAND!

And somemore got a variety of mixed sausages, ham and chicken. More meat, pork and even more meat. Make me eat until my stomach wanna burst. Damn sien of meat now already. But it’s a freaking sweet place to dine…provided you have the cash!

So um, jom makan babi at Karl’s Beisl?

Hi there, I just stumbled upon your blog and came upon your entry about Blackie the dog. I know that its been a while but there has been no update about the poor doggie (or rather I didn’t see the update). I’m a dog lover and could not believe that someone would be so cruel as to do this to their dog. so thanks for feeding her:) but I was just wondering what happened to her??? A happy ending perhaps???

By the way, I love reading your blog. It is sooooo funny. Reminds me of Singapore/Malaysia:)

hey… nice to see some strangers here =)
just wondering, what did you mean by “reminds me of singapore/malaysia”? you used to stay there but now you no longer stay there?

Hi Teresa. Well um, the dog is still alive and well, if that’s what you’re wondering. The house is put up for rent/sale now and the owner leaves the dog there to ..sorta look after the house.
and the neighbours here are so good..they always feed Blackie with whatever leftovers they have..so he’s not in much of a trouble now heh. unless u were to take friends into account lar…haha

My geographically challenged friend, you need to substitute the words “German” and “Germany” with “Austrian” and “Austria”.

Karl is my father and he is from Austria. The food is Austrian (though there is some overlap with German food).

A “beisl”, roughly translated, is a cozy pub or tavern with good, down home food.

Regards,

-Lukas

Heh ! I have been to this Karl’s Beisl. Yes had their suckling pig crispy and nice but man you got something wrong. Please know your food The “nachos” you mentioned is actually the Taco Chef’s Salad with Mustard Dressing, salmon and telor… don’t be so malaysian lah… you only know rojak meh?

My My escargot expensive stuff lah…. Not like your garden snails. Heh! can die if you eat garden snail but escargot is from France…. French Food man for RM15 is cheap cheap….

Price reasonable lah. 12 of us have the suckling pig cost us RM27 each. He warned us not to over order but we insist to try d rosted knuckle loh… so greedy so of course we go back full full.

We had austrian mushrooms, spaghetti not so much meat loh. so next time must order properly.

Man parking so easy and free not like other places like Telawi in Bangsar. Nearly got my handbag snatch after meal at Telawi but here got security here feel so safe loh.

forgot to say best Apple strudel I ever have… no wonder he is Austrian mah…

forgot to tell you, that you are a rather uneducated malaysian – not funny at all.
you sound like a person who has escaped, some mental institution.
